In 1998, Narayan Sakar Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba, his wife, and four others were arrested in Agra for falsely claiming to have the power to resurrect a deceased girl. The case involved a 16-year-old girl who had tragically succumbed to cancer. The baba, asserting he possessed “magical powers,” promised her distraught family that he could bring her back to life.
The Incident and Arrest
The event unfolded at a crematorium where the baba’s followers created chaos. According to Shahganj SHO Tejveer Singh, the baba was charged under IPC section 109 and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act due to the commotion caused by his claims. Pankaj Kumar, a key witness, revealed that the baba had adopted his niece, who had been suffering from cancer. One day, when she fainted, he declared that he could revive her, claiming she had died.
Miraculously, the girl regained consciousness, giving credence to the baba’s claims among his followers. However, she passed away shortly after. This incident led to a large gathering at the cremation ground, where the baba, along with more than 200 followers, attempted to persuade the family that he could still resurrect her.
