Vinesh Phogat – A rather unexpected development at the wrestling event in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics; Vinesh Phogat an Indian wrestler has been disqualified at the 50kg freestyle grappling. The very talented Phogat scripted history on Tuesday as she became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final. But in the cruiserweight category, she was axed on Wednesday on grounds of excess weight before challenging American wrestler Sarah Hildebrand in the gold-medal match to be held at the Champ-de-Mars Arena.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) released a statement expressing regret over the disqualification: Yielding to no efforts by the team that remained with her the whole of last night, she has tipped the scales slightly over 50 kg this morning Having said this, no further comments will be made by this contingent At this juncture, the Indian team would wish to maintain privacy of Vinesh and would like to concentrate on the competitions that are ahead of us.
