DU’s UG CSAS Admission Portal launched Delhi University released UG Admission Policy for the academic year 2024-25.

Delhi University has launched its Undergraduate (UG) Admission Policy for the academic session 2024-25. The first phase of undergraduate admissions in Delhi University has started with the launch of the UG Admission Portal “Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS)” during a press conference held on Tuesday, 28 May. Along with this, admission policy was also released for School of Open Learning (SOL) and NCWEB. Talking to reporters on this occasion, DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta said that from the new academic session, one seat will now be reserved in every class of all colleges and departments for single girl child under the supernumerary quota. It is worth noting that last year DU had also made reservation arrangements for orphan students for the first time in the country. After the press conference, Dean of Colleges Prof. Balram Pani formally launched the CSAS portal by pressing the button on the laptop. Bulletin of Information was also released on this occasion. During the press conference, DU South Campus Director Prof. Mr. Prakash Singh, SOL Director Prof. Payal Mago and Dean Admissions Prof. Haneet Gandhi were also present.

Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta informed that on the basis of CUET score, admissions will be made in a total of 79 programs on about 71 thousand seats in undergraduate classes. He informed that a total of 183 combinations are available in BA programs of 69 colleges / departments. The Registrar informed that the second phase of CSAS will be started after the declaration of CUET result. He informed that the admission process for SOL will start from June 3, while the admission process for “Non Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB)” is starting from today itself. Sharing the information so far regarding the registration process, Dr. Gupta said that the registration process for Post Graduate (PG) programs, B.Tech and five-year law integrated programs was started from April 25. The first allotment list of these programs can be released by June 20. He informed that as per the registrations till May 27, 80,346 registrations have been done in PG, 9052 in BTech and 7362 in five-year law integrated programs. During the press conference, Dean Admissions Prof. Haneet Gandhi presented detailed information about UG admission and CSAS and SOL Director Prof. Payal Mago presented detailed information about SOL admissions through PPT.

CSAS (UG) registration will be done in two phases — Dean Admission Prof. Haneet Gandhi informed that CSAS (UG) registration is divided into two phases. The first phase has started from May 28, 2024. It is a simple registration process in which candidates seeking admission will have to fill in their personal details and academic marks obtained in class XII. CUET (UG)–2024 Application number will be mandatory to apply for CSAS (UG)–2024. The name, signature and photo of the candidate will be automatically integrated with the CUET (UG)-2024 portal. These fields will be non-editable. There will be a provision to enter an active email ID and mobile number of the candidate. All communications from Delhi University will be made only on the email ID submitted in the CSAS-2024 application form. After that the candidate has to fill in his personal details such as parent’s name, category / subcategory / caste / supernumerary quota, gender etc. Email ID, Mobile Number and Bank Account details once filled will not be changed. Hence candidates must be extremely careful while filling these details. In the Academic section, candidates must fill in the details of marks obtained in their Class XII. For students who have passed Class XII from CBSE, the marksheet will be auto-integrated through their DigiLocker. Next, candidates will select the additional category, if any, and finally proceed to pay the registration fee. The registration fee for UR, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates is Rs. 250/-, while it is Rs. 100 for SC/ST/ and PwBD candidates. This process will complete the first stage of CSAS (UG) 2024.

The second stage of the CSAS (UG) process will commence with the declaration of CUET (UG) results. To participate in the second stage, candidates must log in to their CSAS dashboard and complete the preference filling task. In the second step, candidates will have to link the subjects studied by them in Class XII with the subjects in which they have appeared in CUET (UG). Delhi University will consider only those CUET language/domain papers that are similar/identical to the subject studied by the candidate in Class XII. Based on the subject mapping provided by the candidate and the programme-specific eligibility requirements, candidates will be able to see their cumulative marks for each programme they are eligible for admission. The University will consider the marks provided by NTA to calculate the qualifying marks of the candidates. To take maximum advantage of the CSAS admission policies, the candidate is advised to select the maximum number of programmes/colleges. The University will provide sufficient time to the candidates to fill the preferences. However, to avoid last minute rush, candidates should start shortlisting the programmes and colleges they are interested in. Before submitting, the candidate must ensure that the order of preferences is as per his/her choice. Editing of the program + college combination preference list will not be allowed after the deadline of the preference-filling phase, i.e., a candidate cannot change the order of his/her preferences or add/delete any more program/s and/or college/s. As per CSAS policy, the University will also declare a simulated rank at the conclusion of the preference-filling phase based on the data available at that time. Candidates may add/delete/reorder their preferences again based on the simulated rank.

They have also informed that once a seat is allotted in a particular round, the candidate must ‘accept’ the allotted seat before the last date/time specified for the given allotment round. The provision of acceptance of a particular allotted seat will be valid only for the round in which the seat was allotted to the candidate. Inaction/no action will be treated as non-acceptance of the allotted seat. If a candidate is offered multiple seats in a particular round, he/she must “accept” and take admission to only one allotted seat. Once the candidate “accepts” the finally allotted seat, the concerned college will check the eligibility and validity of the documents uploaded by the candidate. The college will verify the documents and give its approval. On receipt of approval, candidates will have to pay the admission fee within the stipulated time.

The university has also informed that after the conclusion of each allotment round, Delhi University will publish the details of vacant seats in each programme across all colleges. All admitted candidates will have the option to choose to “upgrade” or “freeze” at this stage. Candidates who have secured their admission will be able to reorder the preferences which are higher than the priority in which they have taken admission. Candidates who opt for ‘Upgrade’ will be considered for upgradation to the higher priority submitted by them. The candidate to be upgraded will have to ‘Accept’ the upgraded seat and complete the admission process on the upgraded allotted seat. A candidate who has taken admission on the allotted seat and wishes to continue with it should submit a ‘Freeze’ request through his/her dashboard. On selecting ‘Freeze’, such a candidate will never be allowed to opt for “Upgradation”.

Mid Entry Provision — The University has also made a provision to accommodate those candidates who fail to register themselves within the prescribed registration period. Under the Mid Entry Provision the University will open a Mid Entry phase to give an opportunity to those candidates who failed to apply for CSAS(UG)-2024 and are willing to participate in CSAS(UG)-2024. Such a candidate can enter the Mid Entry by paying a fee of Rs.1000 (non-refundable). However, those in Mid Entry will have no right to claim the seats allotted to the candidates who applied for CSAS(UG)-2024 during the initial application phase. After completing the regular CSAS(UG)-2024 rounds, the University may announce spot rounds of admission if seats remain vacant. In order to achieve optimum seat allocation and to avoid seats falling vacant due to drop outs, additional allocation of 20% seats to UR, OBC-NCL, EWS categories and 30% seats to SC, ST and PwBD categories will be made for all programmes in all colleges in the first round of allocation. However, additional allocation of 10% seats to UR/OBC-NCL/EWS and 15% seats to SC/ST/PwBD categories may be made in colleges where withdrawal last year was less than 5% of sanctioned seats. Candidates have been advised by Delhi University to regularly visit the university website. CSAS is the only online platform through which admissions will be done to all programmes in all colleges. The university will only recognize those candidates who are admitted through the university’s common seat allocation system.

Admissions to ECA & Sports and Other Supernumerary Quotas in UG—The University of Delhi has identified 26 games/sports under its Sports Supernumerary Quota and 14 categories (including NSS and NCC) under Extracurricular Activities Supernumerary Quota. It has been decided by the University that 5% of the total sanctioned strength of the college will be allocated for ECA and Sports Supernumerary Quota. The college can allocate between 1% to 4% for ECA and Sports, subject to a maximum of 5% admission in the college. Also, no more than 20% of the seats out of the quota seats will be allocated for any programme. For example, let us assume a college has a strength of 1000, then 50 seats will be for the ECA and Sports Supernumerary Quota of the college. If the college decides to give 3% to sports and 2% to ECA, then 30 seats can be earmarked for sports and 20 for ECA. In such a case, not more than 6 seats can be allotted for sports quota in a particular programme; similarly, not more than 4 seats can be allotted for ECA quota in a programme.

The university also states that candidates seeking admission based on Sports Supernumerary quota can apply for a maximum of three sports. They are only required to upload self-attested copies of a maximum of three merit/participation sports certificates of the last three (03) years issued between 01 May 2021 to 30 April 2024. Similarly, candidates seeking admission based on ECA Supernumerary quota can apply for a maximum of three ECA categories. For each ECA category in which the candidate is applying, he/she is only required to upload a maximum of best five (05) self-attested certificates of the last three (03) years issued between 01 May 2021 to 30 April 2024.

For admission in ECA and Sports Supernumerary quota, Combined ECA Merit (CEM) and Combined Sports Merit (CSM) will be the basis for seat allocation. Applying for ECA/Sports Supernumerary quota will attract an additional fee of Rs.100/- each (non-refundable). Apart from ECA and Sports, the University has also prescribed some other additional quotas. These include Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD, children/widows of Armed Forces (CW) personnel), Kashmiri Migrants (KM), Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme for Students of Jammu & Kashmir (PMSSS), nomination of seats for students of Sikkim and orphans.

Admission Process in SOL and NCWEB — The University has also informed in the press conference that CUET is not mandatory for admission to undergraduate programmes of School of Open Learning (SOL) and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB). Admission in these institutions is based on the merit of marks obtained in class XII. Prof. Payal Mago informed that admissions to 8 PG programmes and 9 UG programmes of School of Open Learning including PG Diploma in Automated and Digital Library Management are starting from June 3. She informed that to avoid any difficulty to the candidates who took admission after the announcement of CUET, it has been decided that SOL will refund the entire fee of those candidates who will withdraw their admission before the last date of closing of admission of the university. For this, only Rs 500 will be deducted from the fee as administrative fee. It is worth noting that NCWEB offers undergraduate programmes where only girl students of Delhi NCT can apply. NCWEB’s two undergraduate programmes BA and B.Com. have about 15,000 seats in 26 affiliated colleges of Delhi University.

Admission Support System to help prospective students — The university has also set up an Admission Support System to help prospective students. Information is available in all formats such as information bulletins, infographics and flowcharts showing visual eligibility, videos, webinars and video recordings of form filling, etc. Online support is being provided through chat bots and emails. Candidates can write to ug@admission.du.ac.in for information related to undergraduate admissions, pg@admision.du.ac.in for information related to postgraduate admissions and phd@admision.du.ac.in for information related to PhD admissions. A list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) is already available on the university website. A helpdesk facility has also been set up in the admission branch for candidates. They can call for any help they need.

Grievances will be resolved — The university is also planning to set up an online portal for handling admission-related grievances and resolving them in an easy and efficient manner. The admissions branch has also announced that they will be conducting a series of workshops covering aspects related to filling up the CSAS form, uploading correct certificates/documents, reservation policies and other important aspects that candidates should keep in mind before choosing a program.

Important Advice for Prospective Students — All the prospective students are advised by the University of Delhi to keep checking the admission website and their dashboard regularly for all admission related updates, programs and guidelines. Failure to accept the allotted seat, pay the admission fee and respond to queries raised by the college will result in the rejection of the allotted seat. Candidates should be cautious and rely only on the information published on the official website of the University of Delhi (www.admission.uod.ac.in). Candidates should also note that the University email accounts are only for those with email IDs ending with “du.ac.in”. Dr. Hansraj Suman, Chairman of Forum of Academics for Social Justice, has welcomed the information given by the Delhi University administration to the students taking admission in the academic session — 2024–25 in the press conference and has also expressed concern that every year the seats of reserved categories remain vacant. He has demanded from the university administration that before starting the admission process, the colleges should send the details of the seats of Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, PWD to the university administration, as well as the colleges should put it on their website so that it can be known how many seats are there for reserved categories. He has also demanded that the colleges should also release on the website how much quota of these categories was filled by the college last year.

Dr. Hansraj Suman has also demanded from the university that Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe Admission Committee and Grievances Committee should also be constituted to look into the admission process of reserved categories. College teachers should be included in this committee. The committee should be given the power to help fill the seats of every category. He has also demanded from the university that a board of every committee formed in the colleges should be made and put up on the notice board and the list of committee members should also be published on the website. Apart from this, information related to caste certificate of reserved category students should also be published on the website. He also says that every year the admission process goes on till October/November due to which students are not able to study properly in the first semester, so the university should complete the admission process within a time limit.
