Comoros-flagged oil tanker with 13 Indians sinks off Oman, and 16 crew members and 3 Sri Lankans missing. The ship leftovers drowned, and inverted.
The country’s maritime security centre said on Tuesday that the 16-strong crew of a Comoros-flagged is still missing after the oil tanker sank off Oman, a day after the sinking was reported.
the Omani centre said in a post on the social media platform X(formerly known as Twitter), that the crew of “Prestige Falcon” included 13 Indian nationals and three Sri Lankans.
Distinctly, the centre told media outlets that the ship remains “drowned, inverted”. It doesn’t confirm if the ship is stable now or if the oil leaked into the sea.
Shipping data by LSEG had shown the tanker was heading to the Yemeni port of Aden and sank off Oman’s major industrial port of Duqm.
The shipping data showed the ship was built in 2007, and it is a 117-metre-long oil products tanker. Such small tankers are specifically used for short coastal voyages.
Oman’s state news agency reported late on Monday that mani authorities started a search-and-rescue operation at the location in team up with maritime authorities.
