Mukesh Ambani- is changing India’s streaming landscape by offering Hollywood blockbuster TV series for just Rs 1 a day with this bold move set to disrupt India’s booming billion-plus streaming market.

As part of the new development, JioCinema is introducing live events, including cricket matches, for free. The monthly subscription of the streaming service, which is part of Reliance-owned Viacom18 Media Pvt, has been reduced to just Rs 29, making it two-thirds cheaper.

With affordable pricing, JioCinema aims to challenge giants like Netflix and Amazon. Having partnered with Disney to bring together TV and streaming properties, and secured content deals with big brands like Warner Bros Discovery and NBCUniversal, JioCinema is positioned for stiff competition.

Customers can enjoy online and offline streaming of foreign movies, TV shows and children’s programs in 4K quality on any device that supports five languages.
JioCinema’s approach focuses on affordability and accessibility. Local programming is ad-free, unlike Netflix and Amazon’s ad-free, premium models. “We are also offering 89 rupees a month for a family with four simultaneous screen access,” Mani said. “We want to make it as affordable and as widely available for Indians as possible to make JioCinema a daily viewing habit for the family members,” he added.

 

JioCinema and Warner Bros Discovery has partnered, offering HBO, Max Originals and exclusive films like Succession and The Last of Us. Mani highlights “We have the largest library of kids content in here. We have probably one of the best libraries of Hollywood content,” “We find increasingly that people watch House of the Dragon, Oppenheimer and the like in their local language.”

 

JioCinema’s plan extends to free-to-air Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches, where subscribers are expected to grow substantially. Combined with India’s expanded track accessibility, this initiative promises to go a long way.
