UPSC chairman Manoj Soni resigns from his post 5 years before the end of his tenure, why?

 Manoj Soni (the chairman UPSC) submitted his resignation five yeas before his tenure was supposed to end, quoting “personal reasons” in his resignation letter.

PTI reported, Manoj Soni, the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has resigned from his post 5 years before his term was supposed to end. In his resignation letter, Manoj Soni said that he is resigning from his post due to some “personal reasons”.

Manoj Soni submitted his resignation from the chairman post around a two weeks back, PTI reported quoting sources, while the resignation is not accepted till now by the top brass.

The report says, Soni’s resignation is “not in any way connected to controversies and allegations surrounding the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) after probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar issue came to the fore,”.

On May 16, 2023, Manoj Soni took pledge as the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and his tenure was to end on May 15, 2029. He has submitted his resignation five years before the end of his term.

 The official sources said, Despite taking over as the chairman of the Commission, sources said that was not enthusiastic on assuming the post and wanted to be relieved. His request, however was not accepted till now. Soni has now desired to devote more time to “socio-religious activities”.

Before being the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC),  He was the youngest-ever Vice Chancellor in India when he accepted the VC post in The Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) of Baroda from April 2005 to April 2008. Manoj Soni served three terms as the Vice Chancellor of different universities..

Manoj soni resigned from the post at time of a criminal case has been filled against trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar and her family members by UPSC for allegedly faking her identity to get more attempts for the public service commission examination.
