Rahul Dravid ‘The man of his principle’ is taking an equal share of the prize bonus as the rest of his support staff, the current head coach denied taking the extra ₹2.5 crores that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was honouring him.

BCCI source said, “Rahul wanted the same bonus money ( ₹2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,”.

As per the allocation formula produced by the board, the team members of India’s winning crew and Dravid were to get ₹5 crore each from the winning ₹125 crore prize money. The support staff are getting ₹2.5 crore each, although the selectors and the travelling members of the team will get ₹1 crore each.

As the head coach of India’s winning U-19 World Cup team of 2018, Dravid had come up with a point. He refused the allocation formula decided by the board As he wanted everyone to be awarded equally. Dravid, for his rank, would get ₹50 lacks whereas the players would get ₹30 lacks each and the other members of the support staff would get ₹20 lacks each.

Dravid, who is a former accomplished player, who never won a World Cup, finally achieved the goal as a head coach of India’s T20 World Cup winning team. Captain Rohit Sharma to senior Virat Kohli honoured Dravid at the forepart of the winning celebrations. When India’s loss in the ODI World Cup finals, last year Rohit was the one who convinced Dravid to continue for the T20 World Cup and to refuse to end his coaching era.

On Tuesday, Rohit wrote a special note about Dravid

“You are an absolute stalwart of this game, but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you,”.
