New Delhi: Nissan, the Japanese automaker, is set to launch an ambitious plan to revive its presence in the booming Indian motorcar industry with a lot of new models. Having only one model available in India now, Nissan has planned to introduce 5 new models over the next 30 months. This is part of Nissan’s overall aim of strengthening both domestic and export markets.
Frank Torres, President of Nissan India said that the company has an aggressive product rollout plan which includes two mid-size SUVs (a five- and seven-seater), an electric SUV and a refreshed version of its popular compact SUV – Magnite. In addition, Nissan has unveiled a fresh iteration for X-Trail premium sports utility vehicle which will be imported as a completely built-up (CBU) model.
“India is an important market for us and we shall go on a product offensive in the next two and half years between FY24 and FY26,” Torres told PTI in Mumbai.
The automaker aims to triple its sales volume by FY26 targeting annual volumes of 1L units each for domestic sales as well as exports. It was emphasized by Torres that forthcoming models would incorporate cutting-edge technology while offering customers high value for their money.
Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, expressed confidence in the company’s strategic timing amidst India’s growing automotive landscape. “I don’t think we are too late in India because the market is not stagnating or plateaued,” says Vatsa.
This focus on SUVs highlights that this is also a global strength for the brand which has direct implications for its strategy in the Indian market. In addition, the company intends to significantly increase its sales network with 300 touch points targeted by FY end up from current 272.

Vatsa argued that Magnite’s export reach had been expanded to cover 40 countries from before only 15. “This is also true of new C-SUVs whose first customers are Indians before the car is presented to other international markets” he added.
According to SIAM data, Nissan Motor India witnessed robust growth in exports with them going up to 12,809 units during April-June quarter compared to just 5,928 units in the same period last year.
The firm also plans on assessing various global models for possible launch into the Indian market post-FY26, illustrating their long-term growth and relevance within it.
